Bryan this is an interesting choice of topic. what are the specific aspects that you are considering researching - history, social implications, economic effects, crime? let explore!
I learned the following information about myself through my web:
1. I definitely don’t like “things” swimming in the ocean with me!
2. I feel relaxed and less stressed when I’m working on a jigsaw puzzle. No matter how difficult the puzzle may be, it doesn’t seem to matter because I’m very aware that my mind and body are relaxing and can physically feel the changes in my psyche.
3. In remembering some of my visits to various concentration camps of the Holocaust and associated “museums” while I was living in Europe, I recalled seeing things that were really horrific and wondered how could something like this have happened.
I think webbing helped me find a topic because: by creating a web and identifying key events, or milestones in my life, I was able to see what I knew and didn’t know, and what some of my interests were. This enabled me to narrow down and focus my attention to a few topics that I thought I could work on for the duration of the semester without getting bored.
I want to consider the following two or three topics for my I-Search:
1. The causes and effects of the shark attacks along the New Jersey shore in 1916
2. Does making jigsaw puzzles reduce stress
3. What were some of the “trophy” items taken from victims of the Holocaust, and why were these items deemed important or significant
My first choice of a topic is sharks along the New Jersey shore in 1916 because: I grew up on the Jersey shore and remember my grandfather talking about the “summer of the sharks.” I’ve NEVER liked the “things” in the water, and can only hope none were shark noses.
Gavin - your topics seem very specific, yet broad enough in scope to really have something to work with. in selecting the werewolf study, what will you looking at? ... history (origins & myths), factual events, medical maladies ... all sound fascinating.
Elise, I think your topic choice of Australia is a good one, but I think it is too broad. What are you specifically interested in about Australia - animals, culture, indigenous people, weather, geography, etc. Maybe identifying your interests will help narrow down the broad topic to a few things that you can really concentrate on.
Elise
It looks like you are interested in sports. Would you consider narrowing your topic on Australia to specific sports of Australia? Or did you want to explore a sports related vacation in Australia?
Bryan
What is it about gambling in Nevada that interest you? Afterall many states have some form of gambling with casinos on reservation and then there is Atlantic City, New Jersey. Las Vegas, Nevada fascinates me - have you been there?
Gavin
There's a werewolf encyclopedia available at the public library called "The encyclopedia of vampires, werewolves, and other monsters / Rosemary Ellen Guiley" copyright 2005. Are you a fan of werewolf movies?
